Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does an attendant come with the chocolate fountain rental?
A. No. Our fountains are cash and carry and very simple to use. The customer is responsible for operating and cleaning the fountains. Each rental includes instructions and a troubleshooting guide.
Q. Is the fountain difficult to clean?
A. Not at all. Once your event has concluded, simply use a rubber spatula to remove the warm chocolate on the fountain cylinder and tiers. The chocolate can then be scopped or poured into a separate container. Paper towels or a damp cloth can then be used to wipe the fountain relatively clean. Once the majority of the chocolate is removed you can place the individual parts (except the basin) of the fountain into a dishwasher to be cleaned. (Caution! Never place the basin in water! This will cause permanent damage to the electrical components.) Note: Chocolate must be disposed of into trash receptable. Chocolate disposed of into sinks will harden and cause damage to the drainage pipes.
Q. Can I use any chocolate in your fountains?
A. You can use other chocolate, but we do not recommend it. In order for normal chocolate to flow conistently and smoothly over the fountain tiers, it must be altered to create specific consistency. This is done by adding varying amounts of oil to the melted chocolate in a messy mixing process. For complete satisfaction and convenience, use our Sephra Fondue Chocolate.
Q. How do I melt the chocolate?
A. Sephra Fondue Chocolate can be melted by the following methods: (1) Place one bag in the microwave. Heat on half power for 3-5 minutes as instructed on the package. It is important to gently massage the chocolate bag every 2-3 minutes, so that the chocolate will not burn. When the chocoalte is melted, simply cut the top corner fo the bag off and pour and chocolate into the fountain. (2) You can melt the chocolate by directly pouring the chips into the basin. Melting the chocolate using this process takes about 1 hour.
Q. How much chocolate do I put into the fountains?
A. The Montezuma Fountain will typically run on 14-16 lbs. of chocolate. The Aztec Fountain needs 10-12 lbs and the Elite Fountain needs 6lbs. If there is not enough chocolate in the basin, gaps will appear as the chocolate flows over the tiers. The basin should be full within 1/2" of the basin rim. As chocolate is consumed, more chocolate may be added to the basin of the fountain. Be careful not to add too much additional chocolate or the basin will overflow when the fountain is turned off.
Q. How many people do the Chocolate Fountains serve?
A. As a guidline, 20 pounds of chocolate will serve approximately 200-250 guests.
Q. What foods can I dip in the chocolate?
A. This is up to your imagination! Typically fruits such as strawberries and bananas work well. Other popular items are pineapple, marshmallows, grapes, blueberries, magos, papaya, apple slices, dried apricots, pretzels, and of course maraschino cherries. Things that are not recommended are foods that produce crumbs, such as cakes, blackberries, raspberries and some cookies. We recommend providing an ample supply of skewers, plenty of napkins, and small plates for you guests to use.
Q. What do I do if the chocolate has hardened in the fountain?
A. Once the chocolate has hardened in the fountain and the auger within the tower was not previously removed, DO NOT turn the motor on! This will harm the motor and result is PERMANENT DAMAGE that the customer is responsible for. Simply turn the fountain control knob the HEAT ONLY. This will gradually melt the remaining chocolate allowing you to clean the fountain normally.
Q. Can I use the Chocolate Fountains outside?
A. In certain instances the fountains will not function properly outside. In order for the chocolate to flow smoothly it must maintain a certain temperature. Cool breezes and cold temperatures can affect the functionality of the fountain. Wind and even slight breezes can also cause diasters when the chocolate fountain is run outside. Because of the thin, flowing curtain of chocolate, even a small breeze can cover more than just strawberries in chocolate! Another deterrent to outside fountain use is insects - which dramtically decrease guest satisfaction!
Q. What is the fountain does not function properly?
A. f you have any problems, refer to the troubleshooting guide included with the fountain. Any malfunctions caused by misuse or failure to read the instructions are the customer's responsiblity. If you are concerned about any unforseen issues, you may purchase our on-call service. A Signature Party Rental Emplyee will be on call during your event to help with any problems or questions you may have.
